Federation’s Major Far Rockaway Development To Be Named in Honor of Barbara Faron
Federation of Organizations is thrilled to announce that our new 117-unit affordable housing development, which is currently under construction in Far Rockaway, will be named the Barbara Faron Residence, in honor of Ms. Faron’s outstanding contributions to the project as well as the entire organization.
Ms. Faron, who is a Licensed Master Social Worker and a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner, has been part of the Federation team since 1978 and has served as Chief Executive Officer since 1986. Under her steadfast leadership, Federation has grown from a small nonprofit organization serving Suffolk County to a multi-faceted social service agency serving Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, providing care to thousands of individuals each year while employing more than 500 people. Throughout her tenure as CEO, Ms. Faron has been a catalyst for positive change within the agency and has helped Federation adapt and grow in an ever-changing healthcare system.
Ms. Faron’s leadership has been instrumental in ensuring the success of the nine-story Far Rockaway development, which is located at 20-50 Nameoke Avenue, at every phase from its inception. From initial planning and the securing of funding to filing for permits and various stages of construction, Ms. Faron’s dedication and determination to moving the development forward has been unyielding.
“We are thrilled to name this major development in honor of Barbara Faron,” said Nancy Schonberg, President of the Board for Federation. “In her nearly 50 years with Federation, Barbara’s contributions have impacted every aspect of our organization. Her commitment to growing and adapting programs and services to meet the ever-evolving needs of the communities we serve, as well as her dedication to the success of this major development from start to finish, have been inspirational.” In May, Federation joined project partners from CSD Housing, Urban Architectural Initiatives and Mega Contracting Group at the site for a topping off ceremony, an important milestone that marks the placement of the last beam or its equivalent atop a structure during construction. The Barbara Faron Residence is slated to be completed in July 2023.
