Federation of Organizations is the sponsor and service provider for Herkimer Gardens, a 119-unit affordable housing complex under development in Brooklyn. Federation was selected for the assignment – which is part of a larger affordable housing initiative under the Vital Brooklyn umbrella – by New York State in late 2018. Over the past year, Federation has laid the groundwork for the mixed-use, senior development, which will have a strong focus on integrated supportive services. Of the 119 units, frail elderly residents will occupy 59 units. Services will be focused primarily on the frail elderly population, but they will be available to all residents. Hunger Free NYC, a partner on the initiative, will provide additional food assistance programs to the community. The building, which has been designed with an emphasis on efficiency and sustainability, will integrate green space with urban living and recreation.
