Companion Program
Federation's Companion Program provides meaningful and rewarding volunteer opportunities for people who are in recovery from mental illness. Through the principles of peer support and self-help, companions strive to improve the quality of life for other individuals within the mental health community. We believe that people with common life experiences can be mutually supportive and, through shared activities, help each other to reach goals and foster increased self-worth.
Adults over 18 who are recovering from mental illness are eligible to become companions
Becoming a companion offers the following benefits:
√ Opportunities to explore vocational goals by working at community sites such as social programs, adult homes, hospitals, outreach programs, food pantries and soup kitchens
√ Meal allowance; travel reimbursement; paid vacation, sick and personal days
√ Social/recreational activities, peer support and friendship
