Advocacy Services

Federation of Organizations employs individuals recovering from mental illness as advocates who are paid on an hourly basis. These people work within the Suffolk County mental health system, including the discharge planning and psychiatric units of hospitals. Advocates are available to assist people in obtaining entitlements, including Medicaid and Social Security benefits. They offer counseling and concrete assistance to people who believe they are victims of discrimination due to mental illness.
