Residential Services
Federation of Organizations’ Residential Service programs provide a continuum of housing services for individuals who are recovering from mental illness. Emphasis is placed on peer support and self-help to assist residents in becoming independent. Professional staff and volunteers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide supervision and support.
Intensive Supportive Apartments
Our Apartment Treatment Program is designed for clients not needing the 24-hour supervision of a community residence, but still needing frequent staff contact. Clients are visited seven times per week by Federation staff. Staff is available after hours to clients facing emergencies.
Supported Housing
Federation of Organizations offers several supported housing programs in Suffolk, Nassau and Queens Counties, including programs dedicated to clients who are mentally ill and homeless. Clients in the Supported Housing Program pay 30% of their income towards rent and utilities and are visited by staff between one and four times per month.
Residential Respite
Federation offers a 21-day respite program for clients in Suffolk County who are in need of temporary housing as the result of a crisis, or are in transition from the hospital to a community-based housing program.
Community Residence/Single Room Occupancy
The Irving Berkowitz Residence is a 50-bed transitional housing facility for individuals who have significant barriers preventing their access to traditional housing alternatives. The facility has 42 beds for this purpose; the other eight beds are designed as 21-day step-down beds for people who are ready to be discharged from the hospital but do not yet have appropriate housing.
