Supported Employment Program

Federation offers a Supported Employment Program for individuals recovering from mental illness who are ready to engage in meaningful work. Whether returning to work or just entering the work force, we offer a variety of placement sites and programs, each of which focus on the individual's skills and strengths.

Job placement may include:
  • Advocacy
  • Outreach
  • Recreational activities
  • Individual counseling
  • Linkage to resources
  • Working with entitlements
Benefits:
  • Receive on-the-job training in a supported environment
  • Peer support and self-help are a primary focus. Peer support groups are available to address work-related issues and concerns
  • A rehabilitation counselor is available to set individualized work goals
  • Benefits counseling
  • Build self esteem
  • Competitive wages
Applicants must be:
  • Motivated
  • Willing to provide peer support
  • Interested in establishing work-related goals
  • Able to act as a team player
  • Willing to assist other people with mental illness through their recovery
  • Able to get to and from the work site independently
     

Big Nosh Vocational Services

Located at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Building 40, Big Nosh Vocational Services offer the following:
  • Vocational assessment
  • Career development
  • Job application and resume writing assistance
  • Training in interview skills
  • Job or apprenticeship placements
  • Support while gainfully employed
  • Affirmative business placement
  • Employment network for Social Security “Ticket to Work” program


The Big Nosh Café

The Big Nosh Café Affirmative business is located on the grounds of Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Building 40. The Big Nosh Café serves approximately 250 customers each day. It offers the following employment opportunities:
  • Supervisor
  • Driver
  • Housekeeping
  • Foodservice Worker
  • Cashier
  • Inventory Clerk
  • Clerical

The Foster Grandparent Program Goes Back to School!
The Foster Greandparent Program recently commemorated back to school by distributing back packs and school supplies to children at Park Avenue School in Amityville.
